The must-haves: women's Bermuda shorts for summer 2023
•3 min read
Summer calls for garments with little, sometimes very little, fabric. And while there are exceptions with long skirts and ankle-length flowing dresses, shorts tend to get shorter, quite a lot shorter. This applies to men, who now even wear above-the-knee shorts to work, and to women too. In fact, summer 2023 has cemented women’s bermudas as a summer must-have.
In short, shorts are no longer just for outdoor occasions, from the beach to the woods. Perfect for day trips and visits to art cities, they are now worn every day, even at work: you just need to know how to style them.
Here are a few tips on the styles to keep in your wardrobe, ready to show off on scorching sunny days.
The bermuda suit
For those who always want to look elegant, even on the hottest days, while always keeping an eye on the latest trends, the right choice is a bermuda suit. It offers a summer yet formal look, masculine yet with a touch of grace, perfect for work and sure to get noticed. Choose a pastel-colored set in lilac or beige tones, to pair with a light crop top or a tank top.
If you want a slightly edgier outfit, you can opt for a waist-defining blazer. A few pieces of jewelry and, as footwear, a heeled sandal will complete the look.
Denim bermudas
Denim is a year-round must-have, so it should also be included in your summer wardrobe in a lighter form. Denim bermudas are the ideal garment for leisure time in the city during the summer or on vacation, wherever you may be. They pair easily with a dark tank top or a cropped top; on your feet, low, wide-heeled sandals or even ballet flats work well. If, however, you want to wear them for a formal evening, you can opt for heels, even pumps.
Short bermudas
Classic bermudas reach mid-thigh, stopping a few centimeters above the knee. For summer 2023, however, it is better to also have a slightly shorter style in your wardrobe; in short, something halfway between classic shorts and bermudas. In this case, the legs of the shorts are slightly wider, and some styles almost give the impression of a culotte skirt. Pockets are a must, as they not only add practicality but also complete the style with that playful touch typical of shorts.
Short bermudas usually fasten with a zip and button and do not require a belt. Of course, you can add one, but if you choose a garment that fits you perfectly, you can also leave it as it is.
Always in a solid color, perhaps a neutral one, they are a must-have garment that adapts to various occasions. They are perfect for leisure time, shopping, an aperitivo with friends, but also for the beach. You can pair them with a t-shirt featuring an inner print or with a crop top; for cool evenings, you can also add a shirt tied at the waist to cover your shoulders.
For shoes, the recommended choice is a flat shoe, such as flip-flops or ballet flats. You can also opt for wedges if you like, but nothing too formal, given that these bermudas are ideal for casual occasions.
Elongate your figure with a high-waisted garment
Not everyone feels comfortable wearing short shorts or bermudas, fearing they might make their figure look wider. In reality, there is no need to give up any garment; you just need to know how to choose the right one to enhance your silhouette. If you have a curvy figure, the secret is to choose high-waisted bermudas: they raise the waistline, elongating the figure, before gently sliding down the hips and concealing any excess curves.
At the waist, you can complete the look with a ton-sur-ton fabric belt fastened with a bow, even on the side if you do not like it peeking out at the front. If the bow seems too childish or draws too much attention to the waistline, simply tie it and let the ends hang down the leg. A different way to wear bermudas that follow the length of the leg, elongating it.
