Denim jacket: how to style it for the perfect summer look
•4 min read
There is no wardrobe, male or female, young or mature, that does not contain at least one pair of jeans for the whole year. And very often, when you change your wardrobe with the arrival of the warm season, there is also a denim jacket.
An evergreen piece that since the middle of the last century has established itself as a style accessory and has never stopped appearing on the catwalks. Through the decades and fashions, this piece has remained a protagonist and worn by everyone from spring to autumn. Comfortable for the mid-season and cool evenings, resistant to sun and rain, easy to match; what more can you ask for in a piece of clothing?
It is hard to beat and for this reason one in the wardrobe almost everyone has. But also for this reason the risk is to fall a bit into the banal, matching it in an ordinary way. Here are some ideas for a perfect match for your summer look
Tone on tone or contrasting?
The first question to ask yourself is whether you want a tone-on-tone outfit, that is, jeans with jeans. If you like tone on tone there is one detail to keep in mind: it must be really the same shade of color. In short, a denim jacket with light blue jeans are not the same and the final effect will be different. So if you want the matching outfit, make sure they are the same, preferably buy them together.
This consideration is even more important if we are not talking about classic denim dye but colored fabric. If you have a pink or green denim jacket, it must be matched with pants of the exact same color; otherwise, go for contrasting.
In this second case, if you stick to a solid color use neutral colors. A blue jacket looks good with black or white jeans; however, avoid other colors, or it will look like a bit of a random match. Instead, go for prints
The denim jacket and floral fabrics
Here we really enter the field of classic and also a bit vintage combinations, so pay attention because it is easy to slip and create an outfit that looks thrown together. The denim jacket over floral dresses looks great, but with a little attention. In general, a short dress is better for the day, a long one for the evening or for some formal commitment. Furthermore, with a long floral dress you immediately have a vintage look; keep this in mind and use accessories accordingly, or else it will seem like you just threw a random jacket over the dress you had.
T-shirt or shirt?
The piece worn under the denim jacket is of great importance, since sooner or later you will take off the jacket and it will be the one to become the protagonist. You can also wear a shirt, but the outfit immediately becomes formal and, above all, very little summery.
If you really like the idea of a blouse, then find a short one or wear it untucked and tie it, so that it rests on the waist.
Otherwise, go for a t-shirt. If you opt for a t-shirt, tuck it into your pants: avoid it hanging below the jacket because it breaks the figure. Even better, look for a short shirt or a top; after all it is summer, you can afford something minimal.
And for the colors? It is always better not to overdo it. If you have a shirt with a print, at least the background should be white. If you go for a solid color, the colors should not be too bright. The denim jacket is already an important piece, there is no need to increase the final effect with too many shades.
The shoes
The denim jacket always wants sneakers? Absolutely not, especially in summer, when sneakers should step aside and make room for every type of sandal.
But of course they are not forbidden either: if you wear a jacket and jeans, a white sneaker will be perfect for a casual day.
Even better, however, a pair of ballet flats, which are lighter and do not weigh down the overall look. If you have a long dress, sandals are almost mandatory, preferably low and flip-flop style. With a midi dress, square-heeled sandals, even 3 or 4 centimeters high. With pants, a wedge is the best choice you can make.
And heels? If you really want to wear them, match them with a pinocchietto jeans with a tank top and jacket; a look halfway between casual and aggressive.
